I made the easiest DIY snow pinecones this year to accent my Christmas tree and to use in my holiday tablescape.

As with every year, I was determined to decorate my home on a budget. DIY snow pinecones seemed like a great decor option because we have a line of trees on the side of our yard that produce pinecones every year, so they would be completely free to use. Of course, I could have used these pinecones as-is, but I decided to cover them with snow because of the ‘winter wonderland’ theme I have going on in my home this year.

I recently decorated my fireplace and mantel using flocked mini trees, a flocked pinecone wreath, and nordic red and white Christmas decor. Also in the living room is a faux Christmas tree that needed decorating. I thought DIY snow pinecones would be the perfect addition to the tree because they would play off the 30” flocked wreath hanging above my mantel nicely.
Additionally, I knew I could use these DIY snow pinecones as tablescape decor on my dining room table. I decorated our hutch using classic Christmas colors, so I just needed something simple to spruce up the dining table.
I created an easy dining table centerpiece using excess branches from our real Christmas tree and my DIY snow pinecones. I topped it off with two candles, and that was it. Super easy and simple!
To create these DIY snow pinecones, you’ll need the following items:
(affiliate links provided for convenience)
- pinecones (if you don’t have any in your yard, you could use these)
- glue
- fake snow (I used this)
- paint brush (you may or may not need this)
- an old bowl
- newspaper (this project gets a little messy)
The first step is to pour some of your glue in an old bowl. Make sure you don’t care about this bowl because you’ll have to throw it away after the project is done.
The next step is to cover the pinecone in glue. I chose to drizzle some glue over the pinecone and let the excess drip off into the bowl.
Then I rolled the pinecone around in the glue. It is a bit difficult to get into the crevices with the glue, so I used a small paintbrush to do that. Then I opened the bag of snow and rolled my sticky pinecone around in it as much as possible.
I also sprinkled some of the snow over all sides of the pinecone to make sure it was covered well. You can see below my DIY snow covered pinecone. I let it dry with the excess snow on it.
Once it dries, you can gently tap it on the newspaper to get the excess snow off.
And that’s it! You’re all done…besides cleanup. Here’s how they look once they’re dry:
I sat a few on some Christmas tree branches on my table to create an easy centerpiece.
These DIY snow pinecones are such an easy and fun project to do with your family and friends.
They could be used in so many ways.
They would, for example, be perfect for garland, ornaments, wreaths, or to just simply display in a bowl as they are.
I love how they turned out. And being that my only cost was for the bag of snow, I’d say this was an affordable project worth doing. I guess all those savings in decor mean I can put a little more toward holiday gifts like these.
