Come on in and join me for a little tour around my transitional primary bedroom! I’m so excited to reveal this space because it has been in the works for months. I completely redesigned this space, and I’m smitten with how it turned out.

About a year ago I did a simple, more budget-friendly bedroom refresh. This time around, I designed a French modern and transitional design for my primary bedroom where I changed just about everything!
My first couple purchases were my upholstered bed and my nightstands. I knew for awhile that I wanted this particular bed. I love it because of the trim detail it has around the edges. I also love the fabric! The nightstands were a different story; I searched high and low for new nightstands. I ultimately chose these nightstands because I fell in love with the scalloped detail.
Some of the only items that stayed the same in here were my lamps. I love these high quality lamps, but I may eventually move them to a different space to make room for white lamps. For now though, I’m keeping them here and I am really happy with the texture they bring to my transitional bedroom.
I contemplated getting the matching set of dressers that go with my nightstands or going for a different option. I usually like the idea of pairing different furniture pieces together, however, in this space I opted to use a matching set.
I purchased both the wide dresser and tall dresser, and I couldn’t be more pleased. I love the contrast they add to our white painted bedroom.
The finish on the dressers is so pretty, with almost a veining sort of look. I also adore the tapered legs.
I knew when designing this space that this dresser would “get lost” on this large wall, so I planned to add custom picture frame moulding to ground the dresser. I actually took the moulding around the entire room, which completely elevated the space. If picture frame moulding is something you want to tackle, check out my detailed tutorial as well as my step-by-step video of the entire process.
I eventually plan to replace the artwork on my dresser with a mirror and sconces, but since the mirror I want is not currently available, this look will work for now.
One of the other big changes I made to our transitional bedroom was the window treatments. I changed out our old blinds with custom roman shades. I ordered these shades from Select Blinds in the color simply white.
I also swapped out our curtains with these gorgeous pinch pleat curtains in the color beige white. I chose the option with the blackout liner. I specifically chose to not have a blackout liner on the roman shades because we keep them closed all the time and I wanted light to filter through. I wanted the pinch pleat curtains to have a blackout liner so that we could block out the light if need be. This combination is working perfectly for us!
The door below leads into our closet. We’ve actually had that mirror on the door since the previous owners of the house left it on there. I love it, and I think it works perfectly for our smaller-sized bedroom. I found a similar mirror online.
One of my absolute favorite additions to our transitional bedroom is this oversized white vessel. This rounded vessel is huge and I have the size small. It’s also extremely heavy. It makes such a statement on top of the tall dresser and I am just tickled with it. I added five leaf stems to this vessel.
One of the design choices I made was to add the picture frame moulding around each nightstand. I had some leftover space on the left side of the wall so we made a small box there. I discuss how to determine these types of moulding design decisions in my DIY wall moulding tutorial.
Another new purchase I made for the nightstand was these cute candleholders. They are beautifully textured and actually come in black as well. I may end up ordering the black ones too because they’re just such a pretty decorative touch.
My area rug is also new. I was gifted this beautiful rug and I am smitten with it. This is the Loloi Margot rug in antique/sage and I have the size 8′-6”x11′-6” under my king size bed. I particularly love this rug for a bedroom because it is exceptionally soft. One of the best parts of waking up is sinking my feet into this rug, and I’m not even eggagerating.
As we work our way around the room to the other nightstand, you’ll notice a pretty simple set up. I added this tiny bud vase which is super affordable. I paired it with a candle I had gotten from Home Goods awhile back. It’s such a simple look and I love it!
My vanity set is about a year old. I had seen a similar Pottery Barn teen vanity that I loved and then found this one for a fraction of the price. It’s not nearly as high quality as my dressers and nightstands but it works well for me.
It came with a mirror but I paired it with a vintage one I already had. I found a very similar white mirror if you like the look of this one. I also added this cute lamp but I am on the hunt for an even smaller one. It takes up just a bit too much space on the vanity that I need for my makeup.
I moved the olive tree to this corner and I think it works well here. I have this affordable 6′ tree and paired it with a budget friendly black planter.
Another set of new stems I added to our room are these gorgeous preserved burgundy eucalyptus stems. They pair so well with the leaf stems I have on our tall dresser. I have three stems in the vase below, but I ended up taking out a stem after this photo and I think it looks better with just two stems.
I am loving our transitional bedroom makeover! I still have a couple things I want to do in this space including swapping out our fan with a white one and changing the flooring. Those updates probably won’t be too soon so I’ll enjoy the space for now. It truly feels like a retreat at the end of the day!
