Spring is right around the corner, so there’s no better time to do a little kitchen refresh. A simple, and often overlooked, way to refresh your kitchen is to restyle your kitchen countertops.
There are so many ways to style your kitchen countertops, but sometimes it can seem like a tricky task. When styling my kitchen countertops, I like to decorate with functional, common kitchen items as well as standout, uncommon items. I find that the combination of these pieces creates nice visual interest in one of the most-used spaces in our home.
FIVE TIPS FOR KITCHEN COUNTER STYLING
USE A STATEMENT VASE
First and foremost, I always use a statement vase or vessel when styling my countertops. Whether it is filled with fresh flowers or styled with faux stems, it’ll surely be a topic of conversation. For this styling, I used this stunning (sponsored) black table vase and filled it with preserved mauve gypsophila.
The vase is 10” H x 11” W x 11” D, making it the perfect size for my kitchen countertop styling. I can’t use an extremely tall vessel on my countertops because I have standard 8′ ceilings, so I like to instead use a wide vase for this space.
Below you can see a close-up of the vintage style vase. I love its shape, and it is beautifully textured with a black and gray antique finish. I’ve already gotten so many compliments on it! Owning one splurge item, like this vase, really goes a long way in a space.
USE CUTTING BOARDS IN VARIOUS WAYS
Cutting boards are a staple in most homes. They’re both functional and beautiful, so decorating with them in the kitchen is a definite for me. I love the idea of using several cutting boards when styling kitchen counters, but in different ways.
On the island, I layered a (sponsored) small wood cutting board (7.87″ L x 11.81″ W) on top of a (sponsored) medium wood cutting board (9.84″ L x 13.78″ W) to create the foundation for a simple vignette.
I particularly love these wood cutting boards because of their rustic nature. I own the smaller two options.
I also used cutting boards in two other spots. Repetition of cutting boards, in particular, feels natural and simple to me. Below you can see one cutting board stacked alongside my books.
On the other wall, I propped another cutting board against the backsplash. Each time I used a cutting board I displayed it in a different way, making the styled countertops look cohesive.
USE A REPETATIVE COLOR COMBINATION
The decor pieces I chose for my kitchen counter styling are all the same color tones. Some pieces are warm brown tones and have an earthy, rustic vibe. The other items, in contrast, have a more modern look with a black, gray and white color scheme.
I love how the items balance each other out and create a warm and inviting space.
USE UNCOMMON, YET FUNCTIONAL ITEMS
A fun way to add unique visual interest on your countertops is to put uncommon, yet functional kitchen items on display. This (sponsored) marble mortar & pestle set is a great example. It’s not an item that every kitchen has, so displaying it can really embellish the look of your decorated countertops.
A mortar & pestle set is perfect for grinding herbs and seasonings or making a dip like guacamole. This one makes the perfect accent against my art piece!
On the other side of the frame, next to the sink, I added a pottery bowl and filled it with simple white towels. This is a great, uncommon alternative to a paper towel holder and immediately upgrades the space.
FILL THE REST OF YOUR COUNTERS WITH COMMON ITEMS
Oftentimes, everyday kitchen items can be overlooked when styling kitchen countertops. For the majority of your kitchen countertop styling, you can utilize your daily kitchen essentials like pots, plates, a knife set, and cookbooks.
Finish off your space with a yummy smelling candle, and you’re set! Your countertops are simply styled with mostly functional items and just a few uncommon, statement-making pieces.
