We are officially finished our bathroom remodel! Our on-suite bathroom has been through many changes over the years. When we first bought our 1970’s home nearly 12 years ago, the bathroom was so tiny. It had a small shower that I could barely fit in, a tiny single sink and a toilet. Several years after moving in we removed the closet that sat across from the bathroom in an effort to add that square footage to the bathroom. Fortunately for us, we have another walk in closet that works just fine for us. Although we loved that additional closet space, across from the on-suite, we preferred to utilize that space for a larger bathroom.
We revamped the bathroom at that time to make a larger shower and get a double sink. It was one of the first major bathroom renos we had done and made some poor decisions on layout.
By 2025 we were ready for another major bathroom overhaul. We did not utilize the space in the best way and knew we could get more ‘wants’ checked off our list by redesigning the layout. This meant removing some walls as well as changing around the plumbing and electrical.
By completely redesigning the space we were able to get a larger shower, add a freestanding bathtub and get a larger double vanity. We went from a 48” double vanity to a 60” double vanity, which has made a world of difference.
Here’s the new look!

I chose this reeded wood vanity in natural oak that comes with an engineered stone top. It has soft close drawers and I’m thrilled with the color of the wood – it looks like white oak! It comes in several other size options and a darker brown oak version. It has ample storage and is well made. I highly recommend vanity if you’re looking for one.

I ordered these pretty, affordable frosted glass vanity lights for above the vanity. I am so pleased with them – they look way more expensive than they are.

Like the vanity and vanity lights, the sink faucets are another excellent Amazon purchase. I ordered these 3 hold widespread faucets in the color antique brass. Not only are they a great price, they are so pretty and really give that European vibe I love.

I wanted to give this bathroom a unique touch and I thought these irregular scalloped mirrors would do the trick. I got the 36”x24” in brushed gold. I think the extra large size really helps make the bathroom appear larger. I even had Jason move the vanity lights up to accommodate for the larger-size mirrors.

On the other side of the bathroom is our shower and tub area. I really wanted to add a freestanding bathtub in here so we worked with the layout quite a bit to get it to work. We had to turn the bathtub to go against a side wall instead of the back wall in order for it to fit properly. We even made our bathroom entry door a bit smaller so I could fit a larger size tub.

I ordered our bathtub from Wayfair. I got the size 54” x 29” in the color white/titanium gold. This was the absolute largest size tub we could fit in this space. It fits me but I think a taller person (over 5’7”) may feel a little crammed. If there’s one thing I wish we could change it would be the size of the tub to make it larger. Since this is the largest we could get, I am still happy! It makes for a nice soaking tub and the tub itself is so pretty.

The bathroom tiles are a whole other story. We had quite the issues getting them here. I made a mistake and didn’t order enough – twice. We got some of our tiles from Edward Martin and some of them from Home Depot. The bathroom floor and large white shower wall tiles are all from Edward Martin. We were able to save some money and grab the shower floor tiles from Home Depot. They all work so well together!

I fell in love with these checkerboard porcelain tiles. They are actually what drove my entire design! I started with them and built the design around the colors.

For the shower floor, I got the 12×12 tiles in calacatta and amani grey. I used the larger 24×24 tiles for the shower wall but only used the color calacatta. For the shower floor, we found a hexagon tile at Home Depot that looked almost identical in color to the calacatta tiles from Edward Martin. They look great paired together!

All of the shower and tub hardware were found on Amazon. I was able to find affordable options that were also beautiful!

We chose a rainfall shower head for our shower hardware. I was a little nervous that the water pressure wouldn’t be strong enough, but I’m happy to say we both love it. The pressure is great! It also comes with a handheld shower head, which is nice to have.

Jason built is this nook for our shampoo bottles. It’s so classy and beautiful.

For the tub, I got a pretty faucet that looks like those old school phones. It works well. My kids love using the handheld portion to wash their hair!

We are so happy with the end result! Our bathroom feels like a spa now. I love the crisp white tiles and gold hardware. The wood vanity compliments everything so nicely.
