Welcome, welcome! I’m so glad you’re joining me today to learn about my opinions of our Ashely Furniture sectional. First and foremost, this is the Ashely Furniture sectional we own (with the right arm facing corner chaise). We’ve owned if for a few years now, and let me tell you, it is a very well-loved couch.

It’s in our main living room, right next to our kitchen, so as you might imagine, it gets a lot of use.

We drink our morning coffee on this couch. We take our afternoon breaks on this couch. We have movie nights on this couch. We binge-watch Netflix on this couch. My daughter naps on this couch. Heck, we nap on this couch. Our guests sit on this couch. We have conversations on this couch. It’s our couch, I mean, you know what it’s like.

Since it is our main couch in our home that gets a lot of use, it was important for us to find a good one when we were couch-hunting.

You’re reading this, so you might be in the market for a new couch or sectional. If that’s the case, read on! You might be happy with what I’m about to say.

I LOVE OUR ASHLEY FURNITURE SECTIONAL!

There is one thing about it that’s a little bit of a challenge, which I’ll get into in a bit, but overall, I really love this couch and I would highly recommend it.

In my Instagram posts, y’all ask me all the time about our Ashley Furniture sectional and you have so many great questions, that not only do I want to give you my honest review of it, I also want to answer all your questions about it in this post.

Before I continue, let’s all stop and take a minute to admire my garden-grown hydrangeas on our coffee table. I don’t have a green thumb, so this is a big deal.

Ahhh, that was nice. OK, moving on.

Here’s a little bit of background about the use of our couch. In the beginning, we kept it very tidy and clean.

Hannah was a baby and she was really only on the couch when we held her or propped her up. At that point in our lives, she didn’t make much mess on the couch.

Fast forward two years and our now-toddler makes lots of messes on the couch. She spills her milk. She drops food on it. And most recently, she has potty training accidents on it.

I had no idea how hard it would be to clean a fabric couch. I tried so many cleaning products and solutions without much luck. Finally, after lots of trial and error, I found two ways to clean our Ashley Furniture sectional: one method for spot cleaning and one method for deep cleaning.

The cleaning issue is the main issue we’ve run into with this couch, but now that I’ve figured out how to clean it, we are set with maintaining our couch for a long time to come.

WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT OUR ASHLEY FURNITURE SECTIONAL

The look of it.

This sectional has a casual and contemporary design. I love mixing casual and elegant styles, and having our couch be the casual component of our living room makes the most sense.

I’ve been able to make our living room have more elegant vive with the addition of our area rug. The great part about the area rug is that it has an elegant vibe but it’s also quite practical, as it conceals dirt well.

I especially love the combination of our rug and sectional together because the color tones work very well together. The area rug is also large enough to accommodate our very large sectional.

The size of it.

Obviously, it’s a sectional, so you can make it into the size that works for your room.

We have a fairly large living room so it made sense to get the five-piece sectional with the chaise lounge on it.

I was actually an opponent of getting the chaise and just wanted the standard sectional. Jason was the one who really advocated for the chaise, saying that it would be a great lounge area to spread his feet out. He basically claimed that spot.

Now that we have the sectional, guess who lounges on the chaise? Yep, me! I was wrong, and I’m so glad that Jason pushed to get the chaise. The chaise is the best part about it. We have a chalk-painted side table next to the couch, which not only contrasts well with it, but also is the perfect spot for my coffee when I do work on my laptop.

I also love lounging on the chaise because it’s right next to our fireplace. It’s the perfect, coziest spot on the couch during fall and winter months.

When we have guests over, our sectional accommodates them as well as us, easily.

The comfort of it.

My sister in law once told me our sectional is the comfiest couch she ever sat on.

It’s that comfortable.

Everyone has a different opinion of comfort and likes varying types of firmness. I think our couch is right in the middle when it comes to firmness. It’s firm enough to feel like you’re not sinking into the couch but soft enough to feel super comfy when you sit down.

How well it has held up over the years.

We’ve used this couch almost everyday (give or take some vacation days) for about three years. Given how much we use it and how much has been spilled on it, I’d say it’s been a wonderful couch so far.

Once I figured out how to clean it, I realized how durable and practical the fabric really is, especially in a setting with a toddler.

The fabric hasn’t ripped or pilled, which is a huge bonus in my book.

The only issue we’ve had with the fabric is staining it from spilled drinks and potty training accidents, which we were able to remove with a carpet cleaner.

The fluffiness of the back cushions have held up really well. The only place I see a minor issue with fluffiness is on one of the back corner cushions.

It’s one of the primary places we sit (so we can put our feet up on the rest of the couch), so I guess it’s understandable. I plan on looking up a solution for this if and when it gets to the point of needing to be re-fluffed.

Overall though, it’s been great as far as wear is concerned. Every so often, we flip the “flippable” seat cushions. The two cushions that aren’t flippable are the end cushions because they have particular edges.

Although the two corner cushions haven’t been able to be flipped, they still look as great as the other flippable cushions. I am really impressed with the seat cushions maintaining their firmness.

WHAT WE DON’T LOVE ABOUT OUR SECTIONAL

The upkeep up cleaning it

When we were considering couches to buy for our living room, I never realized how much maintenance you have to do with fabric couches, and particularly having them with kids.

I grew up with leather couches so I never really had to learn how to clean a fabric couch…until I had this one.

Growing up, I just had to wipe down our leather couch if we spilled something on it. The maintenance of leather couches is so much easier.

That being said, I love the look and comfort of fabric couches so much more. They’re so much cozier to sit on and curl up in. You don’t have to sit down on cold leather, especially in the winter, and wait for it to warm up from your body heat.

After having our Ashley Furniture sectional for a few years, and having to clean the fabric, I still think it’s better than having a leather couch.

Don’t get me wrong – leather couches are still nice and we own a leather loveseat and chair that are in our basement, but I much prefer sitting on our comfy fabric couch.

Outside of vacuuming our sectional, I didn’t really need to clean the fabric when Hannah was a baby. She didn’t make a mess on it, and neither did we.

Now that Hannah is older and creating more messes and having potty training accidents, I had to figure out a simple way to clean it.

Once I figured out how to clean our Ashley Furniture sectional, my faith was completely restored in fabric couches. I don’t mind cleaning it every so often, since we’re able to benefit from the comfort and beauty of it in exchange.

The firmness of the back corner cushion

When we first bought our sectional, all the back cushions were the same great firmness.

After using it for three years, all the back cushions are still really firm except one: the back corner cushion. You can see how it slightly droops with loose fabric in the below image.

This is actually the only cushion to do that.

It’s kind of surprising actually because we sit in that seat just as much as we sit on the chaise, and we don’t have any issues with droopy fabric on the back cushion of the chaise.

I really am not sure why it happened other than it gets a lot of use and maybe it wasn’t stuffed as much as the other cushions.

Regardless of how it got that way, it hasn’t really affected the comfort… yet. I do feel that if it continues to droop, I’ll need to research some ways I can plump it up.

Other than that, our couch has held up really well to a lot of use!

ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS:

Q: How easy is this couch to clean?

A: Once I figured out how to clean it, I realized it’s pretty simple to clean, given that it’s a fabric couch. Obviously our leather couches are wipeable, which makes them easier to clean. But, being that it’s a fabric couch and it has to be cleaned differently than a leather couch, it’s really not difficult to clean stains and smells.

Q: How do you clean your Ashley Furniture HomeStore fabric couch?

A: Our couch is marked with a “W” on the tag, which means it can be cleaned with water. There are symbols on fabric couch tags (at least there should be) that says how you can clean it. Some are marked with “S” which means it should be treated with a solvent, and some are marked with “S-W” which means either water or a solvent can be used.

Through trial & error, I’ve found that our couch is not best treated with water itself. In fact, that makes it worse.

To spot clean our couch, I use this cleaning foam. To deep clean our couch, I use this carper cleaner.

Related: I have a complete tutorial about how I get stains out of our couch and even a video of me cleaning it.

Q: Does the couch come apart?

A: You can remove the bottom cushions and flip them over. The fabric on those are also zippered-covers that you can remove, if needed. We have never removed the covers though.

We have flipped the cushions several times to keep the wear down as much as possible. The back cushions are not removable and do not have zippered-covers.

Q: Would you recommend this couch?

A: Yes, yes, and yes!! This has been a great family couch so far, and I think it will be for years to come. It’s durable, comfortable, looks great, and cleans well. I also love the color of the couch. It’s just the right shade of gray for our living room.
