I’ve had my Better Homes and Garden tufted push back recliners for about a year and half now, and I’ll be reviewing all the pros and cons of these popular chairs.
Psttt… do you spy my baby bump? I’m into my second trimester and I’m feeling so much better. 🙂
Back to the chairs! These chairs, are, in fact, one of my most-asked about furniture items. It’s no surprise either. They’re affordable, at under $300/chair. The original price says $349 but I’ve always seen them marked down to $289 or $249.
BHG offers three color options, though only the brown chairs (which are the ones I have) come in faux leather. The other two options (beige and gray) are polyester. They fit a lot of decor styles as well, making them a highly sought after chair.

REVIEW OF MY BETTER HOMES AND GARDEN RECLINERS
Q: Are the Better Homes and Garden Recliners comfortable?
In short, yes! I know purchasing furniture online can be tricky because you don’t know exactly what they’ll be like in person, but I can tell you these chairs are comfortable. I would say it took a couple weeks to really break them in, as they are pretty firm. They do remain firm but they’re not stiff, if that makes sense. Now that they’re broken in, I like to call them my napping chairs for obvious reasons.
They have two reclining positions. The first reclining position is upright with the leg ottoman up. This is the perfect position for watching TV, doing work on a laptop, or reading a book. The second reclining position is all the way back, which is perfect for relaxing and napping.
Below is how the chair looks fully reclined.
Q: Does the recliner fit tall and/or short people?
This recliner is a great size. It’s not too big and not too small. It’s smaller than those wide la-z-boy recliners and looks better too (in my opinion). According to the website, the exact dimensions of the recliner is 33.5″ W x 37″ D x 41.5″ H. The seat width is 22”, the seat depth is 23.5”, and the seat height is 18”.
My dad, who is around 6′, can easily sit in this chair comfortably. My mom, who is around 5′, can also easily sit in this chair. I’m just over 5’6” and the chair works great for me as well. It is obviously large for my four year old but she loves lounging in it. I feel it’s a perfect chair for the whole family.
As far as weight goes, in the assembly instruction for the chair, it says, “Maximum weight load capacity is 225 lbs (102 kgs).” We’ve had some folks a bit over that weight sit in our chairs for a few hours at a time and it has been fine.
To give you a good idea on width of the chair, I can sit in the chair and have my four year old sit tightly next to me on the seat. It is pretty roomy!
Q: Did you have to put them together?
Yes, but there aren’t many parts that you need to assemble together. My husband put them together in about 20 minutes.
Q: What color brown is the chair?
This is one of my most-asked questions. I feel that the website does a great job of displaying the exact brown color tone. It will look a bit different in your space depending on the amount of natural light you have in your home.
We don’t have a ton of natural light in our living room, so the chairs tend to look a bit darker than what the website shows.
If I were to describe the color, I would say it is a sophisticated darkish brown tone that has a slight gray tint to it.
Q: How easy are they to clean?
I have the brown option which is the only faux leather option. The other options – beige and gray – are not faux leather so I can’t speak for them.
The brown recliners are very easy to clean – that’s why I got them! With a four year old and a baby on the way, it’s important to me that our home is practical.
I usually use a wet rag to wipe them down and they clean up easily. They actually still look brand new, after over a year of constant use!
Q: Can you post a picture with someone sitting on them?
This is one of my most-asked questions about these chairs! And I totally get it – it’s easier to see how big they are by seeing someone in them.
I am just over 5’6” and this is how I fit in the chair – with my baby bump and all!
Q: Are there any negatives to this chair?
I wouldn’t necessarily say there are any negatives to this chair, but I will say that I don’t think it would work too well for elderly people. The reason for this is that to recline, you must push it back manually, with your back and body weight, while sitting in it.
Some elderly people have less strength, which would make it difficult for them to recline. They could easily sit in it, but if they want to use the reclining function, they’d most likely need some help by someone else to recline it back.
Some other recliners have handles on the side or a button (if the recliner is electronic), which I feel would better suit someone who doesn’t have much strength.
There ya have it! Those are the most-asked questions I get about the recliners. I hope I answered your question. If I missed anything, please feel free to DM me on Instagram!
