This year I am creating a classic Christmas look throughout my home, and that includes my Christmas hutch display.
A couple weeks ago I decorated my Christmas mantel using a traditional red, white, and green color scheme. I decided to carry that theme into my dining room by decorating my hutch with festive red, white, and green dinnerware and serveware.

Not too long ago my mom gave me her set of white dinnerware that’s adorned with a basketweave theme. I also collected some white dinner and appetizer plates, coffee mugs, serving platters, and bowls from Habitat for Humanity. I was able to pair those items with my festive green and red Christmas tree serveware set.
For the past several years my mom has gifted me with a few pieces of a Christmas tree serverware set. I have accumulated the items you see below. I believe this set is discontinued but if I come across it, I’ll be sure to link to it in this post.
The entire display was pretty simple to pull off because I only utilized a couple other items outside of my dinnerware and serveware including kitchen towels, candles, and faux red berries.
HERE IS MY CHRISTMAS HUTCH DISPLAY:
When I painted our hutch last month, I went back and forth on whether to use white or gray paint. Obviously, I opted for the latter. I’m so glad I made that choice because my white dinnerware pops so well against the gray hutch. I also love the way the green and red contrast against the gray.
Here’s a bit of a closer look at all the goodies displayed in my hutch.
Starting from the top center shelf, you’ll notice I incorporated two dish towels.
That’s right, those fancy shaped linens in the coffee mug and bowl are actually kitchen dish towels, not napkins. I didn’t have any napkins in the right colors, but I did have a few dish towels, so I just used those! I just messed with them by folding them in different styles until I achieved the height variation and look I wanted. Adding some type of linen in displays always softens up the display a bit.
The snowmen candle holders don’t actually go with my set of serveware, but they are the right colors so I incorporated the little guys in my display.
I stack just about everything. Stacking plates and mugs (and any other dinnerware) allows you to achieve different heights, which is perfect for creating a vignette.
I sneaked in another dish towel below.
Here’s a rare shot of my entire hutch. It’s tough to capture because my dining table is in the way of the perfect shot.
Moving on to the left side of my hutch, you’ll notice I used a plate holder to hold my oval Christmas tree plate. It gave it a little bit of additional height too, which is exactly what I needed.
My Santas are not just festive, they’re also functional. They are salt and pepper shakers.
On the right side of the hutch, I mirrored the look a bit on the top shelf. I used another plate holder for my rectangular serving dish.
The sugar and creamer dishes are my favorite part of the entire set.
I finished off the bottom corner with the teeniest amount of faux red berries. I like that it brings an additional element to the display.
On the dining table, I used more of my basketweave dinnerware set to follow through with the look.
I also folded some white napkins in flower-like shapes and placed one in each mug.
Here’s the view of the hutch from behind our staircase. Jason replaced the original wood spindles with rod iron spindles earlier this year, and they make such a difference!
I hope you enjoyed the tour of my Christmas hutch display. What colors are you using in your Christmas displays this year?
It’s just gorgeous – how generous of your mom to pass along those fabulous dishes! I definitely agree with the color choice for the hutch too – it’s perfect for displaying dishes and making them stand out. Your whole room is just perfect and ready for the holidays!
Thanks so much Melissa! Yes, I am super lucky to have my mom donating so many dishes to me. 🙂 She’s a gem.
Have a wonderful rest of your week 🙂
