My 2020 Word of the Year, Goal Setting & More

Happy day! I’m taking a break from decor for a bit to chat about some New Year’s focused things.

I don’t have any New Year’s related images, but here is Hannah and me twinning!

How do you feel about choosing a word of the year, making New Year’s resolutions, and setting goals for the new year?

I know some people shy away from this type of stuff, but if you’re like me, you LOVE this kind of stuff. This year I decided to come up with a word of the year and also a master goal list of things I want to accomplish by 2021.

If you’ve never chosen a word of the year before, it’s pretty simple…or sometimes not. If you want to come up with one, you just need to take some time to think about what word resonates with you and your goals this year. Think about what you want to accomplish this year and then come up with a word that will help you stay on track all year long to help you accomplish your goals.

Two years ago I chose a word of the year: consistent. It was perfect for that year and I really stuck to that word. It helped me persevere in my busy life at that point, with a new baby, and it helped me be consistent with my blogging business.

Last year, in 2019, I didn’t come up with a word of the year right away and I just kept thinking about it day after day. A word never really stuck, and I’m sad that I never focused on one last year.

That’s why this year, in 2020, I am determined to stick to my word of the year.

This year I chose a rather simple word: schedule.

I know that may seem silly to some people, but when I stick to a schedule, I do SO WELL. And I’m not just talking about scheduling time for my blogging business to-do’s. I’m talking about a full-blown schedule of things I want to improve in my life.

I want to have a set daily schedule so that I know what I need to accomplish at what time. If I don’t set aside time to exercise, then I won’t. If I don’t set aside time to make a healthy salad for lunch, then I will just throw something unhealthy in the microwave. If I don’t set aside time to work on certain tasks, then they don’t get done.

I don’t know about you, but my mind races all the time about all the things I want to do and accomplish on any given day. Sometimes, I want to accomplish so much that I don’t know where to start and then I end up getting nothing done.

When I make a specific, daily schedule that includes what time I need to wake up, what time I need to go to bed, and everything in between, I do better and I accomplish more.

So schedule is my word of the year this year, and I’m excited to stick to my schedule everyday (or as much as humanly possible).

Another photo of Hannah and me that’s completely unrelated to this post! 😉

In addition to my schedule, I came up with some personal goals I want to achieve by 2021, and I wrote them down in my phone. That way I can continuously look back at those goals and see how I’m doing.

When I came up with goals, I got really specific. So, for example, I want to hit a certain number of followers on Instagram by 2021 and I want to hit a certain number of sessions on my blog each month.

Additionally, I came up with other goals related to my lifestyle and healthy habits.

I like to have one master list to look at because I often struggle with balance. If I work really hard on my blog for a week straight, I might slack at eating healthy. So, this year, I want more balance and so to achieve that I am going to stick to a consistent schedule.

I’m very excited about delving into 2020 and seeing what this year has in store. Happy New Year and here’s to a new decade, my friends!
