From traditional rustic fall mantels to neutral and plaid mantels, the ideas I’m seeing are virtually endless – and incredibly beautiful. With so many ideas out there, it can be hard to narrow down the theme you want to create for your own mantel this season. I would know – I thought for days, heck – weeks, about how I wanted to style my fireplace mantel.
To start to narrow down ideas for how I wanted to decorate my mantel this year, I decided to create several design boards with pretty fall decor. These boards gave me some inspiration to create my mantel. I created a neutral fall decor board, a farmhouse fall decor board, a rustic fall decor board, and even a budget-friendly fall decor board.

I love rustic tones and rustic fall decor and while I usually navigate towards those tones, I chose to decorate my mantel this year with neutral tones. I wanted to play off my whitewashed brick and utilize white and gray decor. Plus, I saw so many pretty neutral fall mantel ideas on Pinterest that I wanted to try some ideas out for myself. To get my brain spinning on how to decorate my mantel in neutral tones, I decided to create a design board just for neutral fall decor for a mantel. This board gave me the most inspiration to decorate my mantel this year. I utilized several of the decor ideas for my mantel including candle holders, faux pumpkins, baskets, a vase, a lantern, and a wreath.

HANG OR PROP BASKETS TO CREATE HEIGHT
I wanted to incorporate a basket somehow and not use it in the traditional sense by holding something. Instead, I wanted to either prop on my mantel or hang it. I initially propped it against the mirror, but it didn’t look quite tall enough. That’s when I got the idea to hang it using a nifty brick clip. It was the perfect solution because I could adjust the height of the basket as needed.

PUT PUMPKINS ON CANDLE HOLDERS
Using pillar candle holders in the traditional sense is always beautiful, but sitting some fabric pumpkins on them added a little something extra. I snagged the below fabric pumpkins from Michael’s, and they turned out to be the perfect size for my candle holders.

UTILIZE VASES AND/OR PITCHERS
The pitcher vase that I used below wasn’t originally silver. I actually spray painted it along with the mini pumpkins you see below. I used sticks from Michael’s to fill the pitcher, and I love how the their wood tone contrasts with the silver pitcher. I think it would look equally as nice with a white pitcher.

MAKE A BASKET O’ PUMPKINS
In my case, I made three basket o’ pumpkins and utilized several various-sized pumpkins to fill my baskets. The large pumpkins were given to me a few years ago, and I had painted them grey and white when I received them. I also had painted a few smaller pumpkins and gourds the same tones. This year I bought several more pumpkins from the dollar store and spray painted them silver. I like the way the three colors look with each other.

HANG OR PROP A WREATH
I made the below magnolia leaf wreath for under $7. I originally hung it on my front door but decided to use it on my mantel because it brought the perfect green element. I simply hung it on my mirror with a suction cup hook.
