Hello and happy day! Today I want to share with you some updates I’ve made in our dining room. I’ve been a busy little bee trying to change our French country dining room into a more modern French rustic space.
In a recent podcast episode, I chatted all about how we’re transitioning our home to a modern rustic design – and the dining room is part of the transition.
We are working on updating our kitchen and getting new quartz countertops. Those are taking a little time to get so in the meantime, I’ve been focusing my attention on our dining room.
Here’s how it’s currently looking:
Remember when our dining room looked like this (below)?! Such a transformation!
Painting the walls white made a HUGE difference.
I used Behr Paint in Ultra Pure White, which has been my go-to white paint for awhile now. It’s pretty much as white as you can get on a wall. It’s super bright! This paint gets bonus points because you don’t have to wait for it to be made at the paint counter; you can go into Home Depot and snag it pre-made, right on the shelf.
If you want to use this paint, just make sure you check the labels and get the one that says Ultra Pure White. You can then choose the sheen you want based on the room you’re painting. If you don’t know what sheen to use, check out my painting tutorial. I used eggshell for the dining room.
It took about three solid coats and almost two gallons of paint to get a nice finish.
I can’t get over the transformation! It made the room so bright!
After the paint dried, I moved our buffet to the back wall and painted two of my arched mirrors black. That made a big difference in the look of this room.
Finally, I bought six new dining chairs for this space. After a ton of research, I chose these gorgeous black modern Windsor dining chairs.
They are SO good! They have a rounded back which sculpts your back nicely and indentations on the seat for your bum. I think they’re about as comfy as you can get for a wooden chair. I also love that they’re a classic, timeless style. They’re going to be super easy to clean when food spills too.
That was actually the main problem with our French country dining chairs that we reupholstered and white waxed. We LOVED those chairs, but they had a very light colored fabric, which is difficult to have on dining chairs with a small child. We had to make the difficult decision to sell them so we could create a space that’s more suitable for our season of life.
I think our new chairs are the perfect compliment to our dining table and are super family-friendly.
I have a few more big changes coming to this space, including new window treatments, so stay tuned!
