Get patio decorating ideas for a beautiful spring and summer patio deck.
Welcome to my back deck! I’ve done a bit of rearranging this year and I’m loving the new, updated look. It looked a bit different last year, though I had the same furniture. Just switching up the layout can give you a completely different vibe.

HERE ARE SOME PATIO DECORATING IDEAS FOR A RELAXING RETREAT
INVEST IN A COMFY CONVERSATION SET
I have the BHG 4 piece conversation set, which includes the sofa, two chairs, and the coffee table. This set is extremely popular and always sells out so fast. If you are eyeing this set, I recommend getting an ‘in stock alert’ and then buying it as soon as you get the email that it’s back in stock — that’s how quick it sells out!
I love this set because it’s affordable and the cushions are thick and comfy. The cushions are made to be outdoors and repel water, but we still like to keep covers on our furniture, even when we’re not using it.
For this set, we have a couch cover (in medium) and two chair covers (in large). For more information on our outdoor patio furniture covers, read this post.
ADD FLOWERS & PLANTS
Flowers and plants are one of my favorite patio decorating ideas because they’re so easy to add, and they make such a difference!
I recently bought this large, light gray planter from Target, and it makes such a statement in our space. Behind it is actually a faux dracaena plant from Target. Layering real and faux plants makes them all look real, and you’ll probably fool most of your friends and family.
On our coffee table, I used a citronella plant in this cute white planter. We get lots of mosquitos, so I like my plants to pull double duty. The citronella plant repels mosquitos and looks pretty too. I also put one our outdoor dining table for the same reason!
ADD OUTDOOR PILLOWS
Full disclosure: the pillows on my outdoor couch are not “outdoor” pillows. They are definitely made for indoors, but I recommend getting outdoor pillows to make your patio space extra comfy.
If you’re interested in my pillow covers, I have:
- Brown Chiangmai Pillow Cover Stripe Pillow 20×20
- Dark Sand Woven Pillow Cover 20×20
- Charcoal Gray Cream Pillow Cover, 20×20
- Square throw pillow – Brown/Cream
ADD CANDLES
Candles are a great option for patio decorating ideas because not only can they create a great ambiance, they can also be used for practical purposes.
One the corner table, which is hard to see below, I have a citronella candle burning to keep the mosquitos away.
On my coffee table, I have a few taper candles for ambiance.

I’m so happy with how this space came together. We love the new layout because all the chairs look out to our pool. It has definitely made for a relaxing retreat.
Here’s our other outdoor patio space that includes a fire pit table! Side note: yes, we loved these BHG chairs so much we bought more for our fire pit table area.
