I made this large quote wall art for my living room fireplace mantel for just $35.
I’m so excited about my new ‘stay awhile’ quote wall art! This project came about because I was on the hunt for a large art piece that I could place on my mantel. I really wanted something that was versatile and could remain up there for any season. I searched and searched for a large, budget-friendly wall art option in every home decor store I could think of but I was having trouble finding something that was budget-friendly and also my style.
Instead of paying way too much for a large art piece, I decided to make one! After I came to the conclusion of using a quote, I searched for and debated various options, eventually landing on ‘stay awhile.’ It is such a warm and inviting quote, which is exactly how I want my home to be.

HERE’S HOW I PUT THIS QUOTE WALL ART PIECE TOGETHER
BUY FRAME
I found this 18” x 24” frame on sale at Michael’s and paid $15.99. Considering its size, the price point was very good. I’m sure if you do your due diligence you can find an even better deal on a large frame.

This is the most important part of this project, so pay attention!
If you’re looking to make a large (anything over 8.5” x 11”) art print like me and don’t have the correct software to make a high resolution file, you should buy the file pre-made. If you try to make a large quote yourself in Microsoft Word, for example, it won’t work properly because the size is maxed out at 8.5” x 11”. If, however, you want to make an 8.5” x 11” art piece or smaller, you could definitely make it in Word and print it yourself.
I found this quote from a seller on Etsy, and it was on sale for $4.80 when I purchased it. I received the files just as described, and I would recommend this seller, based on my experience, if you’re looking to purchase a quote.
Tip: Make sure when you’re looking to buy a quote that you match up the size of the print file to the frame you bought.
PRINT QUOTE
After I received the file from the seller on Etsy, I put it on a zip drive and took it to Staples to be printed. They offered a couple variations of paper type for printing. I opted for the second-cheapest paper type, which made my cost come to about $15. I did think it was rather pricey for a print, but I went ahead with it anyway.
In the future, I’ll probably use the cheapest paper-type since it’s going in a frame and also wait until there’s a sale going on.
If you really want to be frugal with this project, check out some other stores that offer printing and do some price checks to see which store is currently offering the best deal.
ASSEMBLE & DECORATE
I picked up my print the next day from Staples and immediately assembled it in the frame.
The piece inspired me to keep my mantel decor simple and use mostly a neutral pallet. To complete the look on the mantel, I added some pops of green with my DIY magnolia wreath I made a few months ago along with a real plant on the end.
Overall, this quote wall art was such an easy project, and it came out so well.
In total I spent about $35 on this project. While this isn’t a horrible price point, I’m sure this project could be done for even cheaper. You just need to find some good deals on frames and printing. Better yet, if you have an un-used framed lying around your home, use that for major cost savings.
Fair warning: I love this new quote wall art in my home so much that you may be seeing some similar quote wall art pieces in the near future!
It’s so pretty Marly! I think the frame was a great price, especially for that size! Looks beautiful and simple on your mantel.
Thanks so much, Melissa! I’m so glad you like it!
