Welcome to my newly updated home office! I am so smitten with how my small home office turned out. I’d been wanting to get this room updated for months, so in January I finally committed to checking this room off the list. My goal was to finish it during the month of January but because of shipping times, design changes and other priorities (baby boy’s nursery!), my plans got delayed a bit. I’m still pretty happy that it got completed when it did – a couple months before my due date with baby number three!

My home office is on the smaller side so there’s no a lot of room for a really large desk. I wanted my desk to be in the center of the room so I came up with a plan to place it there while also maximizing storage.
Here’s how my office used to look. And here are more versions of past-offices I’ve had. I can’t believe how much my style has changed!

I have two places for storage in my home office – in my large black bookcase and in my sideboard behind my desk. Luckily, I didn’t have to spend much money on the bookcase. We moved it into the office from another room in our home, repainted it and added new hardware. It was actually a $100 Facebook Marketplace find from years ago. More recently, my dad and I made custom doors for the lower half of the cabinet in order to add a storage section to it. That was one of the best decisions for storage purposes.

In the storage section, I keep my office supplies, blogging supplies, and extra decor. I got a handy acrylic drawer set and my daughter helped me organize all the office supplies, like pens, pencils, paper clips, staples, rubber bands, clips, etc. The drawer set is actually made for makeup supplies, but I think it works perfectly for office supplies too. It’s just big enough for pens and pencils! I think it would also be great for kid’s art supplies. I plan to eventually get a second drawer set to organize all the art things my kids have accumulated.
Once the organizing was done, I got to the fun part: decorating! For the bookshelf decor, I used tons of vases, family photos and bins with bin clip labels. I kept the bookcase decor to a repetitive color scheme using beige, white and brown tones mostly. I wanted these items to contrast with the black bookcase. I love the texture and warmth they bring to the office!

In the bins, I store my extra taper candles, mail supplies, curtain supplies and samples, extra hardware, adhesive items, and random extras. The bins have been a great and necessary addition to my storage solutions in my small office.

I positioned my sideboard behind my desk and chair, and there’s just enough room for it to fit. It is pretty tall and wide, so it has a lot of storage space. It’s big enough to house my printer, a charging station for our devices, my trashcan, and tons of file bins. I love that it hides all the non-aesthetic, but necessary office items.

The large art work was not originally intended for this room, but after I started putting the space all together I realized how perfect it would be above the sideboard. The art work is actually a digital print I purchased and had printed and custom-framed from Frame It Easy. I got the size 48×36 with the Ashford metal frame. It’s such a beautiful piece of art and I’m so happy with how it looks in the office.

I searched for awhile for the perfect desk. I originally picked out something larger but realized it wouldn’t fit in my office properly with the other storage furniture. I decided to go with a writing desk because it’s smaller but still substantial enough for a workspace.

The area rug ended up being such a task. I went through two other rug options before I landed on this beautiful rug. The other rugs I initially purchased didn’t look quite right with the horse herd art print above my sideboard. It all looked too busy for my style. I finally landed on this rug, and when I got it in, I knew the colors in the rug were perfect for all the other elements in the room. It was definitely worth the hassle to not settle on a rug and to do the extra work to ship back ones I didn’t like in the space.

Once I finished the design, I realized that I wanted to add curtains. Curtains were not part of my original design, but I felt like the room needed to be softened up a bit. I knew drapes were the missing piece. I ordered the Liz Linen Drape Pleat in the color Burlywood Birch. The color makes the room feel so inviting and I’m so happy with the final look!

Curtain details (Liz Linen Drape Pleated):
- Color: Burlywood Birch 1908-5
- Hanging Header Style (Hooks included): Pinch Pleat
- Single Panel Width After Pleats Made (inch): 137
- Single Panel Length (Height) in Inch: 94
- Lining Type: Unlined
- Matching Tieback: No
- Need Body Memory Shaped: Yes

I highly suggest getting the memory shape option. I have some of these curtains that aren’t memory shaped and you can definitely tell the difference. The memory shaped curtains bounce right back to form when you pull them open and closed. Plus, they look so sleek and high end!
