Get inspiration for a neutral and sophisticated living room.
This is the quiet room in our home, at least that’s the name my daughter gave it. The name has pretty much stuck too – it’s pretty fitting. We don’t have a TV in this room, so it’s reserved for coffee time and family game time. We very much love hanging out in this living room!

SOFA
This living room has gone through many changes over the years, but this one is definitely my favorite. I started by moving one of our sofas in this room, against the windows. Our sofa is from Value City Furniture but it’s no longer sold. This Pottery Barn sofa is a great dupe for it! Here’s another, more budget-friendly, linen sofa that’s also beautiful!
CURTAINS
I love the way the sofa looks against the French-style, pleated drapes. These curtains are actually from Amazon. I wrote an entire post about these curtains and rods as well as how to get the same look I did.
COFFEE TABLE
One thing I recently updated in this room is the coffee table. We actually had this coffee table from awhile ago and it was painted white. The white looked good in this room, but I wanted to give the room some contrast so I painted it black. I love the way it came out. Painting your old coffee table is a budget-friendly to easily update a space.
GALLERY WALL
On the other wall, I have our custom, Frame It Easy picture frames. I wrote a post with all the specs I used for these frames. There are also some similar black Studio McGee picture frames with wide, white matting to give you this look.
LINEN ACCENT CHAIRS
The accent chairs are a fairly new purchase, and they are gorgeous. They are also a great price, especially considering their high-end look.
TABLE DECOR
On the coffee table I added some beautiful home decor pieces, many from Target! Noticing a trend here?! I love this rustic planter and bowl. I added some antlers in the bowl along with a marble link chain.
The eucalyptus stems are a find from Walmart!
On the side table, I paired my lamp with pottery and a candle.
THROW PILLOWS
Throw pillows can sometimes be overlooked but investing in some high quality pillow inserts and covers goes a LONG way in a neutral living room. All my pillow inserts are from Home Goods. I’ve since removed the original covers and replaced them with other ones, from Etsy and Target.
- brown striped pillow cover
- sand woven pillow cover
- charcoal striped pillow cover
- wool brown/cream pillow
AREA RUG
Another important purchase for a sophisticated and neutral living room is the rug. Typically a 9×12 or 8×10 rug will work in a living room. If you have a really large living room, you may need to go up another size. The key is to have your furniture legs (at least the front ones) on the rug. My rug is a 9×12 and both the sofa and accent chairs front legs rest on the rug.
My rug is the Layla in Olive/Charcoal. It is a very popular rug and for a good reason. It looks great in so many spaces and is affordable.
BLANKETS
Nothing finishes off a living room space better than a few cozy blankets. They’re also great for styling. I usually get all my throws at Home Goods, as I feel they have a great, budget-friendly selection with lots of color choices.
